Well, nothing has changed significantly, from last week. Kaylea and I still don’t think she is going to make it to 39 weeks. There was one development this week. No more work. Kaylea isn’t suppose to work, or do much of anything, from now until either 6 or 8 weeks after delievery, depending on how she delievers. We are still going to the hospital twice a week for fetal monitoring, and once a week office visits. We should have an ultrasound again in the next couple of weeks, too. All that is left is for the paperwork shuffle, for her work, and short term disability insurance, and for this baby to come. T-minus 5 weeks to induction!

Baby Update – Week 33
Wednesday, August 9th, 2006Baby Update – Week 32
Thursday, August 3rd, 2006Okay I realize i didn’t post anything about last weeks office visit basicly because there wasn’t much to post. Due to some delay at the OB’s office with getting reports from specialists to Kaylea’s chart they didn’t really have anything to tell us, we told them what we could remember from the maternial/fetal medicine consult because we were not really prepared for that visit. This past Monday we went in for our last ultrasound (for now) and the maternal/fetal medicine people were nice enough to give me a copy of the report so that we could have it in case there was any question was to what was to happen next. So after this week’s visit (this morning), here is what is going on:
- Ultrasounds will now be every 3 weeks
- We are now going to Mercy every Monday and Thursday morning for fetal monitoring
- They are going to induce at 39 weeks (now looking at or around Sept 10, 2006)
- While they can put Kaylea on bed rest at any point and time they really don’t want to until 38 weeks (to prepare for induction).
- Her blood pressure was excellent (in the 120’s/80’s for the first time ever in the office)
- The OB wrote a note for Kaylea’s boss she is to take a 15 min break every 2 hours no questions asked!
The good news is that everything is still going well, and while Kaylea may not agree with me, she is still working (they want to keep her active). The bad news is no more frequent pictures. I think that was really the only upside to this blood pressure complication.
Baby Update – Week 31 Ultrasound Pictures
Wednesday, July 19th, 2006Okay we had an ultrasound on Monday July 19, 2006, and we have quite a few, really nice 4D ultrasound images. While I have only posted a few below, you can see the rest of them here.
We also had a meeting with the Maternal/Fetal Medicine physician (think OB who deals exclusively with high risk patients). While there was some signficiant information (some of it for the first time), I am going to hold off on posting it, until the weekend, after we have our normal visit with the OB, on Friday.
Until then, here are some nice pictures.
Baby Update – Week 29 – Week Have an Answer!
Tuesday, July 4th, 2006Well we were at Mercy Hosptial on Monday night (July 3rd) for fetal monitoring (because of Kaylea’s blood pressure), and the doctor didn’t like monitoring tracing. Apparently the baby is still small enough to hide from the ultrasound transducer so we can’t get a constant tracing. So, they decided to get an ultrasound. These are going to become a twice a week thing until the baby is big enough that they can’t hide from the transducer.
Well when we got to the ultrasound the tech was able to tell us what we are having. If you want to find out click the read more link (there are also pictures).

Its Offical – Bye Bye Babies R Us Registry
Saturday, June 24th, 2006We are getting rid of our Babies R Us Registry. Why? Well we can’t by anything online anymore. There are four items (outside of the Baby Einstine DVD’s) that we can purchase through Babies R US/Amazon. We have already started a registry at Walmart and we will be starting one at Target Soon. I realize that many of the items from both places will only be available on-line however most of our family has access to a computer, and the major basic nessecities, many of which we still need, are available in most of the Walmart and Target Retail stores. There are a few things that will still be on our Babies R Us registry, like some of the furnature, because they are the only ones that carry it but that will be about it.
If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail either one of us.
Baby Update – Week 27 – Update
Saturday, June 24th, 2006Well Kaylea’s encounter with blood pressure medication did not go well. So we had another office visit yesterday. They halved her dose, and with today being the first day with only one pill we shall see. They now want us to take her BP in the morning before she gets out of bed, as soon as we get home from work, and before she goes to bed and takes her daily dose of blood pressure medication.
We have an appointment on Tuesday, and another appointment and ultrasound on Friday.
More updates to come.
Baby Update – Week 27
Saturday, June 24th, 2006We had another appointment yesterday, and it wasn’t all good news. Kaylea’s blood pressure was the highest it has ever been in the office 158/100. The docotor’s decided it was way too high and they diagnosed her with chronic hypertension. This wasn’t a complete suprise to us, as they told us before that if it stayed too high they may do something about it. They went over the issues that this can cause, the complications, and prescribed her some medication to lower the blood pressure. They also suggested some medication she can take for her sinus, which as of late, have been cause her some problems and that she should take it easy if possible.
They also told us that if they can’t get her blood pressure under control with medication, that the next step would be bed rest.
Now after talking with our parents there immedate response was what about pre-eclamsia. Well after some research and a really good article at OBGYN.com I was able to explain to them the difference. Pre-eclamsia is really gestational hypertension, chronic hypertenion comes on before the 20th week of pregancy and does not include any the of signs of pre-eclampsia or gestational hypertension. So now you ask what are the symptoms of gestational hypertension well according to the article at OBGYN.com they are
”
- High blood pressure,
- Edema (swelling, more suggestive of gestational hypertension if it is central of the face rather than peripheral of the ankles–peripheral swelling is normal),
- Hyperproteinurea, or spilling protein in the urine, and
- Hyper-reflexia, or exaggerated deep tendon reflexes (the knee-jerk, for instance).”
From Hypertension in Pregnancy
Kaylea is lucky in that she doesn’t have the protien in her urine. Also all her liver and kidney function tests are good.
We will now have weekly visits to the office with monthly ultrasounds and regular non-stress test. They are going to watch this carefully because of complications that high blood pressure and cause and because they want to make sure it doesn’t evolve into gestational hypertension.
In good news we have an ultrasound next friday and with any luck we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl.
